Real Estate Talk with Kevin Turner

Weekly radio show 'Fly Over' report

radio showKevin will keep you informed with the current Real Estate market and answer any of your questions. Each week we "Fly Over" a suburb, check out the history and find out about real estate in that area.

Zillmere, QLD

Zillmere, located 14 kilometres north of the Brisbane CBD, is an affordable suburb just outside the magic 10km ring. There’s barely a negative in sight – it has several train stations, direct buses to the city and plenty of schools. The excellent facilities mean Zillmere remains a popular place to buy, with 131 houses sold there last month, and Council is planning urban renewal of public areas in the near future.

According to REIQ the suburb is 40% light-to-medium industrial, with the remaining a mix of houses and a handful of townhouse developments.

Lutheran missionary, Johann Leopold Zillmann, arrived in 1838 and the area became known as Zillman’s Waterholes, which was eventually changed to Zillmere when the rail line went in.

RPData reports houses last month sold for the median price of $373,000, a 12-month trend-defying growth of 20.32%. Units sold for the median price of $295,000, a 12-month growth of 6.5%.

Kurnell, NSW

This week's flyover takes us 22 kilometres south of the Sydney CBD to Kurnell, a suburb in the Sutherland Shire. Kurnell - the landing place of Captain Cook in 1770, and arguably the birthplace of modern Australia – is now the home to about 2,600 people. The suburb got its name either as a deviation of an Aboriginal word “collonel” or as a deviation of John Connell, an early settler. Kurnell’s small residential area and group of shops create a village atmosphere, however, the suburb is dominated by the Caltex Oil Refinery and a desalination plant.

RP Data tells us that the median house price last month was $530,000, up a trend-defying 19.1% in 12-month growth figures. There were no units sold.
